Default Computer Help

I have an Emachines T2984 and it stinks. So I wan wondering if it is better to get a new computer than to get repairs and to get upgrades. I had a HP pc in mind:http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pa...oductDetail.do
Is this any good for gaming and guild wars?

Aye for a pre-built machine it isnt too bad, it will/should play guildwars but one thing worries me, it does not say what the onboard graphics chip is, but it does have an expansion slot if you ever want to add a graphics card.

Yeah, the PC doesn't look too bad. Don't expect high fps from it. I would still go with it since it will run GW just fine and you can always add a video card in it since it looks like it has a PCI-E16x slot. Just don't expect to turn this into a gaming rig, but you can make it nicer.

check some of the other posts please on buying a new comp. There are good prices on comps more towards gaming concerns for decent prices, Pick up a copy of PC gamer. Got newegg.com.

It's all well and good having the PCI-e 16x slot, but what's the point in the expansion slot when the majority of newer cards simply won't fit into the case. Then there's the PSU, I find it hard to imagine that it's a half decent one with a dedicated PCI-e connector.

I always say stay as far away as possible from pre-built and build your own.

I'd have to say that from many years of exp with HP...

Stay as far away from HP as possible.

That machine is $500.

You can do much better than an HP for $500 even if you don't feel like doint all the research to build your own.

If you have the time and desire to do the research you can build a MUCH better machine on your own than you will ever get for the price of a pre-built machine. The only exception being clearances, closeouts, or rebates on pre-built machines.

PC Magazine and PC Gamer are good "normal people" magazines (not too much geek speak and when they do use geek speak they explain it).

Then try a more hardcore one like Maximum PC (although they talk mostly about the high dollar cutting edge stuff).

There are also plenty of sites online where you can find tons of info.

Edit: I forgot to respond to the other part of your question (although you already seemed to know the answer)... don't waste another dime on the E-Machine (the only brand that makes me cringe more than HP)!
